About Us

NUTH whistleblowers are a group of senior staff who shared their experiences with the CQC. We are happy to hear your story and provide any support we can. All contact is completely confidential.

Sir James Mackey, CEO appointed in January 2024 described

the CQC inspection report as a 'tough read'. It is unprecedented for the CQC to need to create two separate reports or downgrade a previously outstanding trust to one that 'requires improvement.'

Reading the report, contributed to by 69 main whistleblowers, horrendous bullying of staff by clinical and managerial staff is described.  Sexual discrimination as well as victimisation of those who spoke up about concerns is outlined by the CQC.  Sexual harassment is reported. There are concerns that some staff may have been suicidal as a result of problems at work.

We have created this website and blog facility to allow staff to come together safely and find support and resources for the issues raised by the CQC report. We are also calling for a public inquiry into what happened to allow for full transparency, accountability and a vehicle for embedded lessons learned not just for NUTH but for other organisations throughout the UK.

CQC report 2023

'The service did not always manage patient safety incidents well. Staff recognised but did not always report
incidents and near misses for fear of retribution.'

CQC report 2023

'The culture of this directorate (or board) is one of negativity. Serious incidents were deliberately covered up and
information that should have been shared were not and that would have changed outcomes. Bullying of senior nurses
by cardiothoracic management was appalling'
